HSSPV | Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley!

Every day we rely on dedicated volunteers to help us with daily operations, quality of life for our animals, and special events.
Our mission is to be a leader in saving lives and serving communities by providing innovative care for our animals, finding loving homes, and reuniting families. To achieve our mission, we rely on people like you to donate their time, effort, skills, and funds so we can all succeed in saving our animals and educating the community on animal welfare. Volunteers provide a great resource for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley. Your donated hours help our animals stay socialized, find loving homes, help us receive grants, and build a strong organization. While we get many calls for large groups to volunteer, we may not always have a need or opportunity available. Please keep this in mind and give us as much notice for a request as possible. We always appreciate the support. We can always use donations and in-kind support. Organizing a donation drive or fundraiser in our name is always a great way to support us.

We look forward to having you on our amazing volunteer team! Here is how to get started:
  1. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer. If you are under 18 years of age you must always be accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian to volunteer. (Adults 18 years and older must always maintain control of the leash when walking dogs.)
  2. Complete a 6-month commitment with weekly or bi-weekly shift totaling 8 hours per month.
  3. Fill out an online volunteer application. At the end of the application, you’ll receive a link to a brief online course that describes the next steps to become a volunteer. Paper applications are also an option, when needed, and can be picked up in person at the shelter.
  4. To begin volunteering, you must complete the short online course, attend a 2-hour on-site orientation, and complete a 90-minute hands on practice session for the activity you plan to participate in with an experienced volunteer.
  5. Contribute a fee ($25) to cover the cost of a t-shirt, name tag, and kennel key.
  6. To see if HSSPV is a good fit for you, please read the following documents:
